Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan is undisputable one of the greatest showmen of our time His name is Terry Bollea, and he is almost singly responsable for the rise in popularity of professional wrestling in the 80's.

Once Hogan became interested in Pro-wrestling, he began training under Hiro Matsuda, one of the greats of the Japanese rings. While training for wrestling, he was also bodybuilding and went under the name of "Sterling Golden". Once he started to get into the indy rings, he went by "Terry Boulder", then finally picking the name Hulk Hogan, to which is he known today. In the beginning of his career, he was most often cast as the heel (bad guy) in the ring. This is a role that he would return to much later to create one of the biggest buzzes in the sport.

Hogan joined the World Wrestling Federation in 1979 and was cast as in Irish villian. Soon after, he got a part in Rocky III as Thunderlips. It was this national attention that led to him become a face (good guy) and then capture the federation's highest title by beating the Iron Sheik in Madison Square Gardens in 1984. From here, things were only looking up for him. From upon Hogan's 26" pythons, Vince McMahon allowed the WWF to garner a national audience. It was with the help of Hogan and serveral tie ins with MTV that the great "Rock n Wrestling" connection was born. This got them into the mainstream so much that huge stars, at the time, agreed to extended projects with the WWF. Cindy Lauper and Mr T were two such stars.

Hogan left the WWF in 1993 after holding thier title five times. He then went to Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling. He promptly won the title in his first match there. By 1996 people were starting to get bored with his image, so he formed the New World Order with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. Fans booed Hogan for turning heel and Hulkamania died that night with Hulk taking the moniker of Hollywood Hogan.
