The High Moral Ground (6/4/98)

There comes a time when every responsible fake journalist must look deep within himself, to find out exactly where he has to draw the line. Some, like Craig Kilborn, don't even bother to get out the crayons. Others, like myself, actually consider whether a situation is too easy, too cheap, if you will, to go for.

And that's where I find myself right now, shortly after reading that Bob Denver, the 63-year-old former Maynard G. Krebs, Gilligan, and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast guest admitted to facing a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge in his home state of West Virginia.

I mean, really. Think about it. You've got an old guy, famous for being a clumsy, slender dweeb in his youth, getting caught with a metaphorical towel under his metaphorical door. The humor potential is rife even without the "little buddy/little doobie" jokes.

But no. I'll let ol' Bob rest in peace. He'll gain no condemnation from me. But I will lay odds that there's at least a 50% chance that, on tonight's "Daily Show", ol' Kilby does a joke about the Professor testifying it's for medical use. Let's all tune in and see if I'm right.
