Reggie Speaks His "Mind" (3/26/98)
In what some are calling the biggest public faux pas since the Soy Bomb guy, football maven and erudite genius Reggie White turned his appearance before the Wisconsin legislature into an hour-long rant against homosexuality peppered with ethnic stereotypes about virtually every group on the planet.White was ostensibly there to talk about his trip to Israel and his inner-city development projects, but was actually there so that middle-aged state legislatures could use their vague influence and power to meet a nifty keen football guy.
After the speech, Republican Speaker of the House and Packer apologist Scott Jensen, said White "gave a far-ranging speech, and I'm sure everyone who listened could find something to disagree with." Jensen was the one who invited White to speak, and was therefore forced to be diplomatic after White didn't slam Hispanics and Native Americans as harshly as Jensen had hoped.
After the incident, the legislature said it was reviewing its criteria for who was actually qualified to speak before them, and would consider removing "brain-damaged, overpaid nutjob football players" from the list.
