Daytime Emmy Nominees Announced (3/11/98)

The Daytime Emmys, known far and wide throughout the entertainment industry as "The Emmys Nobody Cares About", were announced today.

In a desperate bid to find something newsworthy about the nominations, which are given out every year for the best and brightest amongst those bottom-feeders of the TV food chain, the news media headed straight for Lucci and Springer.

Lucci, who has managed to turn not winning into a 17-year-long running gag/career, was nominated yet again for her portrayal of Erica Kane on All My Children. Insiders say that at this point, only .05% of the US population cares whether or not she wins, and that percentage does not include Lucci herself.

Meanwhile, in the talk show arena, E! Online found it necessary to point out that, despite its perch atop the ratings heap, the Jerry Springer show failed to garner a nomination for any of the awards, ostensibly given out for quality. Springer was quoted as saying, "So I didn't get a nomination. Whose opinions should I care about. A couple dozen morons on some nominating committee, or the millions upon millions of morons who tune in faithfully every night?"

In a related note, the Peter Tamarkin Fan Club once again staged non-violent protests throughout Los Angeles, as the onetime host of "Press Your Luck" was denied a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Daytime Emmy nominating committee.
