The Mystery Science Theater 3000

ConventioCon ExpoFest-A-Rama 2

Electric Bugaloo

On August 30, 1996, I flew to Minneapolis, Minnesota. I had barely told anyone I was leaving town that weekend. I would be missing the third and fourth day of classes for the semester. I had spent my birthday money and then some on plane tickets.

What was I thinking?

I had decided to go to the Mystery Science Theater 3000 ConventioCon ExpoFest-A-Rama 2: Electric Bugaloo!

I had never done anything like this before -- the last convention I went to was the 1988 Republican National Convention. Why had I done this? Well, you see, I happen to think that MST3k is the simply the most brilliant thing to ever air on television. And all my life, I've thought television itself was the bee's knees. So I figured, what the hell. Do something interesting, treat myself.

I met many people I had previously only known over the Internet, mostly through the newsgroup rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc. In fact, this account was originally posted to RATMM, each entry four days after the events contained therein. I've slightly revised the entries, cleaning up the grammar, and trying to make it a bit more clear for nonRATMMers and/or nonMSTies who may stumble across this page. All those names you don't recognize are probably RATMMers.

One final note: between disposable cameras, some without flashes, poor photography skills, and the limits of bandwidth and browsers, the pictures ain't pretty. The ones that are pretty are probably from Chad Gould's page.

That's me in front of the fabled Satellite of Love.
