NEW YORK, April 1, 1996 -- Best Brains Inc., producer of "Mystery Science Theater 3000," and COMEDY CENTRAL, the only all-comedy network, have been unable to come to terms to extend the series on COMEDY CENTRAL beyond 1996, it was announced today by Doug Herzog, president and CEO, COMEDY CENTRAL.

Though Best Brains' agreement with COMEDY CENTRAL prevents them from negotiating a new contract with another network until 1997, Herzog has waived that provision to allow Best Brains to pursue other opportunities.

"We are disappointed that Best Brains and COMEDY CENTRAL could not find a formula to extend our relationship despite mutual efforts to do so," said Herzog. " 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' has made an enormous contribution to COMEDY CENTRAL and we wish Best Brains success in the future."

COMEDY CENTRAL, the only all-comedy network, currently is seen in more than 38 million homes nationwide. COMEDY CENTRAL is owned by Comedy Partners, a 50-50 joint venture of Time Warner Entertainment Company and Viacom. COMEDY CENTRAL is a registered trademark of Comedy Partners.
