Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? (Disney) I admit it. I have a very high REGIS tolerance. I can survive the most inane commerical or story about Joy when everyone else in the room is suffering fits of convulsions. However, this CD-Rom might just cross the line... even for me. (And I like everything.) WWTBAM-CD was obviously created to cash in on the success of the first series and be in the stores by Christmas. And guess what? It shows. The people at Jellyvision, makers of the fabulous "You Don't Know Jack" series, did their best, but were unable to keep this from being an almost unbearable playing experience. Where do we start? First and foremost, the game pales in comparison to the Online Game in a multitude of ways. REGIS doesn't speak much in the game, being reduced to a few soundbites that the computer arranges in an almost realistic fashion. And at times, the emotions don't match the gravity of the situation. You don't want to hear a non-committal REGIS when you're risking $250,000. Instead, most of the voice work is saved for the "Phone a Friend". "Phone A Friend." Ouch. Let me ask you this. Do you really want to hear REGIS banter with one of his "friends" that's obviously a Jellyvision actor? Do you want to hear what they came up with, either scripted or imporved? "Who >loves 'ya Regis baby?" Shoot me now. Finally, you only see REGIS at the beginning and end of the game in video clips that make it look like he's either needs a transplant or is passing a kidney stone. On the bright side, game play is pretty decent. The "Fastest Finger" round is done extremely well, and has that Jellyvision touch that I really enjoy. The rest of the game is decent to play as well, although abc.com did it much better. |
