Action (FOX) This one could be headed for greatness. I'll be honest, the first time I watched the first episode, it really left me lukewarm. Trying too hard. Namedropping. One nice subtle moment of grossout humor regarding someone's hand down Keanu Reeves' pants. The second episode, though, once it got rolling, was great stuff, even if they did try way too hard to work the words "Salma" and "Hayek" into one particular scene too, too, too many times. The Disney exec scene was priceless, and even Buddy Hackett acquitted himself nobly by the end. And what I saw of the third ep, I liked. The biggest pitfall for the show is its own schtick. It's a lot like G vs. E in that respect, where the gimmick is sometimes threatening to upstage the writing, and sometimes succeeds. But it got me to tune in several Thursdays running, which, for a network sitcom, is a very impressive feat. Plus, I always kinda liked Jay Mohr for no good reason whatsoever. |
